In Memoriam
The Raleigh St. Patrick's Day Parade Committee is sad to share the loss of Meg Lavoie. Meg was a member of the Parade Committee from 2003 to 2015, and chaired the Festival for most of those years. Not only did Meg serve, but her husband, Ed Lavoie played as a member of Eire Lingus at the Festival, and her four children served as volunteers on the day over the years.
Margaret "Meg" Lavoie (Furey), 59, of Raleigh passed away peacefully on August 20th, 2024, after a long illness. Meg leaves her husband Ed of 34 years and 4 children: James and his wife Jen of Rocky Mount, Nathan and Joseph of Raleigh, and Meadbh of Asheville. She also leaves behind 4 grandchildren Mike, Grey, Link and Elliana.
Meg had several careers during her life including insurance claims analyst, restaurant manager and facilities manager. She was also very involved in the Raleigh community. Other than the Parade Committee she also served in PTA leadership and as marching band mom for her kids. Career opportunities brought Meg and her husband to Raleigh from New England in 1991 and made their home here raising her children and grandchildren. Meg loved spending time with her family and dogs and enjoyed travel.
